PUBG: Battlegrounds launches Prop Hunt mode as PUBG: Blindspot shuts down

PUBG: Battlegrounds has rolled out its much-anticipated Prop Hunt mode, offering players a fresh twist on gameplay. However, the new mode is available for a limited time only, with access ending on April 7.

The Prop Hunt mode introduces a hide-and-seek format featuring 12 players per match. Nine participants take on the role of Props, while the remaining three act as Hunters. At the start of each round, Props are given a brief movement boost to find suitable hiding spots, while Hunters are confined to a restricted area with limited visibility.

Once the round begins, Hunters must locate and eliminate the disguised players. The mode penalises inaccurate shooting, as firing at non-Prop objects reduces a Hunter’s health. Meanwhile, Props can deploy various defensive tools such as stun guns, decoys, and the ability to switch forms to evade detection.

As the match progresses, a “Fever Time” phase is triggered, increasing the intensity of gameplay. During this stage, Hunters gain access to additional weapons, and penalties for incorrect shots are removed. The mode is currently playable on popular maps including Miramar, Rono, and Vikendi.

The limited-time event has attracted significant player interest, with many calling on developers to make the mode permanent. The development team has also hinted at upcoming collaborations, including a crossover with Stellar Blade, expected to feature the character Eve.

Despite the success of the main title, challenges persist for the franchise. Recently, developer Team ARC announced the closure of PUBG: Blindspot, a spin-off that struggled to gain traction among players. The title faced criticism over technical issues and lack of originality.

The shutdown has raised concerns within the gaming community about the future direction of the franchise, particularly as Krafton continues development on another project, PUBG: Black Budget.
